Entitled relative steals Christmas toys that ‘fun uncle’ reserved for charity, gives them to her grandkids and doubles down on her Grinch behavior when she's called out

Here I was thinking the Grinch was a playful cartoon that functions to teach children the true meaning of Christmas—but apparently, some folks really take his character to heart.

Folks who set aside time and money to give back to charity deserve a special seat at the high table. After all, they go out of their way to give back to those in need! What's not to love about them? The downside to being an inherently kind person is that someone, somewhere will find a way to take advantage of that. The original poster (OP) of this story was a victim of one of his entitled relatives, who decided to take it upon herself and steal toys that he was intending to give to a children's hospice charity.

Aside from the disrespect shown to the OP, the fact that this relative decided to take presents that were reserved for sick children speaks volumes about her intentions. The OP doesn't go gentle into that goodnight, luckily. Scroll to read.

  • The original poster's (OP's) relative is entitled to the max. Firstly, if you're told that those gifts are reserved for charity, that's the end of the discussion. Kind folks go out of their way to give to those in need, and for someone to think that they can take advantage of a charitable person's kindness is absurd.

    The very fact that the relative went back to the OP's house while he wasn't home speaks volumes. She has every intention of leaving with those gifts Grinch-style, and knows that her demeanor will allow her to do so seamlessly.

    was so furious that I slammed the phone down and didn't speak to her again for around 4 months. Now during that time she would ring and my other relatives would answer the call and chide me for not forgiving Heather

    Tell the family members still giving you grief that you'll forgive her when she pays for what she stole or buys and donates gifts of the same value to the charity she stole from. NTA
